There are several nearby outfitters that provide rafting on the French Broad River. Most offer half and full day trips including some suitable for younger children. Enjoy class 2-4 rapids depending on section of the river and recent rainfall. Lots of fun!
If you're not up for whitewater action, the French Broad has some great sections for tubing. Zen Tubing in Asheville is the largest outfitter in the area and makes it easy to get on the river and start having fun.
There are a couple of local businesses that after horseback riding. Sandy Bottom Trail Rides has a neat option where you can ride to the Little Pine Gem mine and stop to look for gems before heading off into the sunset on your trusty stead.
Mossy Mountain Bikeworks in downtown Marshall offers bike rentals as well as being a full service bike shop. Highway 251 which runs from Marshall to Asheville is very popular with bikers as it follows the river and has some great views as well as riverside parks along the way.
Mountain bike aficionados will like Bailey Mountain Bike park which offers incredible mountain bike trails with over a thousand feet of elevation change. They even have mountain bike rentals.
